Volunteer at CBE

Home » Community & Learning

Throughout the year, Congregation Beth Elohim offers many opportunities to volunteer, suitable for many different interests, schedules and talents. We encourage you to become an active member of our community.

Following is a list of CBE’s committees and initiatives. Please contact Lauren Shenkman at (718) 768-3814, ext. 242 or LShenkman@cbebk.org if you are interested in getting involved in any of these areas.

High Holy Day Ushering:

As an usher, you fulfill a vital and critical role as our community welcomes the new year. Ushers welcome congregants as they enter; assist the elderly, the infirm, or others requiring assistance to their seats; and help maintain decorum. It is an honor to begin the year by giving your time to the community. Your smile and assistance as you greet your fellow congregants can mean a great deal as we greet the new year together.

If you would like to take advantage of this volunteering opportunity, please call or email Executive Director Monika Hamburger at (718) 768-3814, ext. 204 or MHamburger@cbebk.org.

Budget/Finance: Prepares annual budget; oversees annual audit; handles other financial aspects of CBE.

Early Childhood: Oversees and supports the Early Childhood Center.

Tot Shabbat: Helps coordinate CBE’s fun-filled, musical Shabbat celebrations/dinners for young families the first Friday of each month from October to June.

House/Building: Supervises repair, renovation, architecture and sustainable design; presents proposals for future improvements, repairs and renovations.

Jewish Learning: Promotes Jewish study throughout CBE; programs Jewish learning for adults.

Membership: Helps recruit new members; engages and retains existing members; oversees membership-related communications; follows up with resigning members.

Yachad (Religious School): Oversees and supports youth and family programming, including Yachad, Youth Group and Academy.

Ritual & Worship: Analyzes and evaluates current worship practices; proposes changes in the ritual and spiritual practice of CBE.

After-School & Day Camp: Oversees and supports the After-School Center, Upper Day Camp and Travel Camp.

CBE Singers: Volunteer choir.

Chesed Initiative: Strengthens the CBE community by supporting congregants in their times of joy and sorrow.

Social Action/Social Justice

Seeking professional and semi-professional photographers:
We need high-resolution photos of CBE programs and activities. Please help. Contact Cindy Greenberg at cgreenberg@cbebk.org. Thank you!

Charitable giving is an important part of Judaism and is vital to our congregation. We depend on your act of generosity and kindness - of Tzedakah - to support our programs and facilities and help us meet the needs of our growing and diverse synagogue community.
