Social Action Opportunities

Home » Community & Learning » Social Justice

During the High Holidays you have the opportunity to help the Tikkun committee shape CBE's focus for our social justice work. Look our for the posters and cards to place your vote. If you would prefer to vote online then please vote here!

In the meantime here are just a few of our upcoming volunteer opportunities at CBE.

Habitat for Humanity

Two Sundays, October 21 and October 28
Following our five successful days of construction, we have more opportunities to volunteer with Habitat-NYC. Join our team on Sunday, October 21 and again on October 28 working on projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Volunteers have to be at least 16 years old. Sign up for just one day or both days. Please contact Amanda Leath for more information and to RSVP at amandaleath@gmail.com.

Maintaining our tree pits!

Ongoing opportunity
As you might have seen our tree pits are looking beautiful. This is through the hard work of a number of members along with some Afterschool kids. However, we do need some help keeping them tidy and attractive. If you (and your children) are interested in getting involved please contact Judith Foster at foster.judith@ymail.com or 718-431-3700.

The Osborne Association: Help a Child See Her Mother

November 15 and 16
Once again we are looking for volunteers to chaperone a child to Albion Prison, a medium security women’s prison near Rochester, New York to visit his or her mother. The children are resilient, hopeful and inspiring in the face of adversity. These trips are powerful experiences, and our past volunteers felt it was a privilege to help children and mothers reunite. We are currently looking for a commitment from three volunteers to make the trip on Thursday, November 15, returning Friday, November 16. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Wesley Weissberg at wweissberg@mac.com.
