Chesed/CaringCongregation Beth Elohim’s Chesed Group supports congregation members in their times of joy and sorrow. We arrange for meals for those who are ill as well as for families with new babies. We run errands or shop for homebound members and visit ill members at home or in the hospital. In the event of a death, clergy and Shiva Minyan lay-leaders are available to lead services for mourners in their homes. The Chesed Group is dedicated to strengthening our community at CBE. Members are welcome to participate at their own comfort level, whether it’s sending a card, paying a Shiva call, visiting a sick member or providing a meal. Here’s how you can get involved in the Chesed Group: Volunteer: To join the other volunteers in the Chesed Group, please email your name and contact information to chesed@cbebk.org and someone will be in touch. Stay Informed: Sign up for our weekly electronic newsletter, the CBE Advisory, to receive the latest Chesed News. (Just type your email address in the right column of this page where it says “CBE Newsletter,” then click the checkmark button.) Let Us Know: If you or someone you know are experiencing a joy or a sorrow in your life we can help with, please let us know by sending us an email. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . No information will be shared with the Chesed Group or with the wider community unless you give us permission to do so. We partner with the UJA in the “Partners in Caring Program” and have a social worker available to help elderly congregants and/or members with an elderly relative assess their needs and make referrals to appropriate agencies. We have also continued to partner with the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services and to promote various resources on bereavement and coping with difficult economic times through programs run by the Shira Ruskay Center and the Rita J. Kaplan Jewish Connections Programs. |
