CBE is proud to present its inaugural music education and performance series with a wide variety of sounds, styles, and artists designed to pique ears, touch souls, and create opportunities for further learning.
SEPTEMBER 2012 Sat 9/8 - Selichot feat. Galeet Dardashti's "Monajat" @ Park Slope Jewish Center A profoundly spiritual way to usher in the High Holiday season featuring the Brooklyn premiere of Galeet Dardashti's MONAJAT. Co-presented with PSJC, Kolot Chayeinu: Voices of Our Lives, and Union Temple of Brooklyn.
OCTOBER 2012 Sun 10/7 – 150th Opening Ceremony & Sukkot Block Party with The Afro-Semitic Experience, ShirLaLa, and CBE ensembles
Mon 10/8 - Simchat Torah in the Plaza, 7:30pm (Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch, Grand Army Plaza). Join Jews from all over Brooklyn in rejoicing, singing, and dancing with our sacred scrolls as we go back to the beginning.
NOVEMBER 2012 Mon 11/26 – Rossi & Co., 7:30pm (Chapel) Come learn and gain inspiration from chamber choral works by the most celebrated composers of 17th century Italy, including the father of Jewish polyphony. Co-produced by the Five Boroughs Music Festival and featuring soloists from co-produced with the Clarion Music Society.
DECEMBER 2012 Fri 12/14 - Shabbat Chanukah VII/Rosh Chodesh Tevet featuring CBE ensembles and programs.
JANUARY 2013 Thu 1/24 - Shabbat Shirah concert, 7:30pm (Sanctuary) Cantor Breitzer welcomes home Brooklyn natives Cantor Jacob Ben-Zion Mendelson, Maestro Matthew Lazar, the internationally acclaimed Zamir Chorale and members of HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir.
FEBRUARY 2013 Wed 2/13 – V’asu Li Mikdash: A Contemporary Concert Ma'ariv with Noah Aronson, 7:30pm (Rotunda). Come for a creative evening of song, prayer and Torah featuring our old friend Noah Aronson, clergy intern at Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, MA and rabbinic student at Hebrew College, Newton, MA.
MARCH 2013 Tue 3/12 – Shirat HaAviv: Singing for Spring, 7:30pm (Rotunda) Bring in the ancient Hebrew month of Aviv (a.k.a. Nisan) with some of Brooklyn's most innovative Jewish singer/songwriters and CBE's own Noar Omanut (artistry) students.
APRIL 2013 Tue 4/16 - Celebrate Israel on Yom Ha'Atzmaut
MAY 2013 Tue 5/7 - "Sounding Jerusalem: Interfaith Dialogue through Music" CBE's clergy host local Christian and Muslim community leaders in an evening of conversation and song on the 46th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification. Share your thoughts on the city holy to our three faiths, interspersed with music inspired by the work of Cantor Elana Rosen Brown, rabbinical student at HUC-JIR.
