Youth & Family Education

Yachad welcomes Jewish children of all ages and their families with warmth and openness, while providing Jewish and Hebrew curriculum with backbone. Our students delight in the expectation we have of them to reflect, question and respect our tradition. We do not believe anybody is too young to stand face-to-face with Jewish ideas. This is evident in many aspects of our services and curriculum: from the moment on Shabbat mornings when students are called to gather intimately around an open Torah scroll for the weekly Parasha reading, to the moments in our weekday classes when students are challenged to interpret text and create new visions through artistic expression and social action. We aim to make the tradition accessible, enjoyable and relevant.

CBE’s Hebrew school’s name reflects our belief that Jewish supplementary education is at its best when it imparts insight and ethics that influence how we live inside and outside of the synagogue.  Our vision is a welcome update of “Hebrew school” where children are dropped off to be educated.  We aspire to have children feel a sense of belonging in our community, and to motivate and empower them to carry Jewish values and meaning into their home and school lives — and into their futures. We also believe that when parents and children are given the opportunity to pray and learn together, the meaning is that much greater. And so we named our school “Yachad,” which means “together” in Hebrew, to reflect these goals. While largely focused on our children, Yachad encourages all members of the community to be engaged in active Jewish learning on weekday afternoons, on Shabbat and during holiday celebrations. Our active youth groups for grades 3-12, including BESTY, our senior youth group, support those goals as well.
